Our cruise departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida which is the most recent cruise port for the Disney Cruise Line in Florida. Since this port was still so new for Disney Cruise Line, we did experience a bit of confusion with ride share being unsure how to navigate to the drop off and pick up points for the cruise. Down on Deck 4, the promenade features a walking or running track that goes all the way around the ship. Unlike the Oceaneer Club, where there is a formal check-in and checkout procedure, the tween club allows kids to come and go. If you don't want to give your 11- or 12-year-old that independence, then the Oceaneer Club and Lab are better suited for them than Edge.

The signature pecan tart was a nod to Thanksgiving on a Christmas-themed cruise. Mickey ice cream bars are the favorite dessert here; ice cream is also available, as well as a changing dessert such as a chocolate brownie with ice cream or white chocolate cheesecake. Each bathroom comes with a refillable hand soap dispenser; the shower room also offers bar soap and refillable containers of Disney brand shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the tub. The shower room has a full-length mirror on the back of the door, which is useful, but this means there are no hooks on the door to hang extra items. There are, however, two retractable clotheslines in the shower and two large hooks on the wall between the bathroom and the sleeping area.

These dining rooms have their own unique themes, menu offerings and specialty drinks, and waiters even wear different uniforms for each room. In the past, Disney provided two-way phones in staterooms to allow family members to keep track of one another, but these were absent on our Disney Wonder sailing. Instead, Disney's new Navigator app allows passengers to chat with one another, and we found the internet even allowed for iMessages to be sent to one another -- even when logged out of the ship's paid internet plans. The bright-yellow Mickey's Pool Slide and Splash Zone are perfect for the little ones (and, let's face it, adults love the waterslide too). And, unless your heart is made of stone, you'll melt at the characters, all pros at child-wrangling, who embrace the outgoing and coax the timid into pictures of a lifetime. It would also be a real plus if Disney Magic integrated a magical scavenger hunt type of activity that you see on other Disney ships. This would layer in one more thing for the kids to do on a sea day or between other activities.
It was time for the fun to officially begin with the "Sail Away" party. If you have the Disney Visa, you can save on board with discounts on spa treatments, Castaway Cay packages and photo packages. However, in terms of earning or using points, the Disney Visa isn't actually the best card out there, even for a Disney cruise. Almost a year ago, we had a successful sailing on the Disney Dream out of Florida, so we booked another Disney cruise to start 2020. This time we only needed a two-hour drive from home in Houston to hop aboard the ship in the Port of Galveston. No airplanes were involved on our journey across the sea to Mexico on the Disney Wonder, one of the two original ships in Disney's fleet.
